Bio - Alarik McNay
Hey, I’m Alarik, my friends call me Big Al — thanks for checking out my site! I’m a Philadelphia-based media producer and grad student at Temple University. My work blends passion and professionalism to create cultural content that’s thought-provoking, timely, and (more than) occasionally ridiculous.
Right now, I’m earning my MA in Media Studies and Production with a focus on emerging media psychology — in plain terms, I study how new technologies are shaping the way we think. I work at Apple Walnut Street as a product specialist and serve as our location’s wellness and accessibility champion. Outside the uniform, I freelance as a photographer and videographer, mostly in the music space, where I aim to craft visuals that feel as personal and grounded as the artists I work with.
My work spans a range of digital formats — from social media content to broadcast news. I’ve produced stories for Temple Update, Temple’s student-run program that airs weekly throughout Philadelphia and beyond, covering topics like food insecurity and university budget cuts. Lately, I’ve been exploring immersive formats like 360° video and augmented reality, usually through comedy or educational content.
I’ve collaborated with artists like Hue Hinton and Bristol Tooth, and I love highlighting big life moments too — weddings, graduations, and the milestones that deserve to be captured with care. Whether it's a scripted shoot or on-the-fly doc style, I’m always thinking about how to connect with an audience visually, emotionally, and intentionally.
I’m currently looking for freelance and professional opportunities that let me scale up my production and bring bigger ideas to life. If you need a creative problem-solver who can blend production skills with media theory and love — let’s talk!
